Traditional Japanese Garden Shimizu-en

Shimizu-en, the elegant wooden second house of the powerful ruling family (Mizoguchi) of Shibata, was built in 1693. The second house also had a beautiful garden. The garden's pond was shaped so that the edges form the Kanji for water. A historical museum and rustic tea ceremony houses are also located on the grounds of Shimizu-en. You can also visit the lord's foot soldier's residence, called Ashigaru-nagaya, which is located next to Shimizu-en.
